Outland Game Network. Outland is a new game network that provides a virtual environment for people to meet and play multi-player games. Outland features a selection of real-time, fully graphical, on-line games, written by independent Macintosh developers. Games currently available include Spaceward Ho!, Chess, Reversi, Backstab, and Hearts. Backgammon and several other games are coming soon.
In addition to multi-player games, Outland provides a friendly user interface featuring lots of chat areas, message boards, helpful sounds, and a beautiful landscape.
This new service is part of the Internet, so anyone with telnet or MacTCP access can now enter Outland using the free client software. In addition, many new access methods to Outland are on the way.
The charge to use Outland is $2.50/hour. There are no monthly fees, and the software is free. Each new visitor gets two complimentary hours to explore this unique realm.
Outland software can be obtained through anonymous ftp at major ftp sites such as sumex-aim.stanford.edu or by calling 1-800-PLAY-OUT. It requires a Mac 68020+ and System 7.

Wild Blue Yonder. Wild Blue Yonder relives the action of the 50 years of the modern jet age. More than a historical look at the aircraft of those historical eras, the CD-ROM also provides an audio-rich experience including cockpit chatter, the sound of aircraft flying by, speeches from leading political figures of the time, and period music from performers including Charlie Parker, Elton John, and The Scorpions for each of the four historical eras in the Jet Age.
The colorful interface invites users to select several avenues of exploration, including color and black/white video footage of real combat footage from the close of WW II through Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm, to aircraft instrument panels which users can highlight to learn what each instrument does.
Twenty airplanes are described in realistic detail including specifications for peak performance in combat. Fast-moving videos show the actual aircraft in flight to enhance the user’s experience and knowledge of the plane.
